The pluses of this hostel are: good location (very close to the subway) and the fact that it's very peaceful. But there are definitely more minuses than pluses: very poor cleanliness (a couple of times I saw rats in the basement where lockers and washing machines are situated; bathrooms are quite dirty), air conditioning not working in some of the rooms (for example in mine) and, what's the worst, extremely high taxes added to the price seen at hostels.com. When I made a booking there was infor

the location is very nice and quite. The staff is kind and gave us a hand when we needed it. The rooms aren't extremely clean, but if you just have to sleep there, it's not a big deal....

You hear about hostel horror stories, but I truly enjoyed my first time ever being at a hostel. West End Studios will be the place of my choice anytime I go to NY. It is in a nice area and a block from the subway. it is a block over from Broadway. The staff was always pleasant and helpful. My only suggestion is that maybe to buy mats for the showers to kepp them from having to try and paint them. Thanks for a lovely time.

I have booked hostels on this site and the price listed is always the price i pay. This hostel was one exception, the price listed on the site (Total amount) was according to the hostel not the total amount but we had to pay tax aswell. I think the total amount payable should be the TOTAL amount. This was the first time i encountered this when booking.

The hostel is well located and clean enough to stay there for the night for the price they charge. But don't expect something fancy as they try to show on the website, there is nothing about "boutique hostel" in there, except for the reception maybe. All in all, it is worth for the fees they charge.

The staff we're miserable and unhelpful. This is the worst quality place i have stayed, (dispite going to some of the poorest places in the world). We had trouble booking, and when we called, the lady couldnt even reserve over the phone and the website bookings wouldnt confirm. This hostel doesnt have a card machine, yet has a swipe card facility to use the internet? (its a mix of modern technology and poor communications and below average levels of basic hygeine). For New York 2008, this is way
