SameSun Backpacker Lodge - Vancouver - Hostel

Lonely Planet called our hostel "…the newest and hippest hostel in town!" We've pulled out all the stops by building a massive brand new kitchen upstairs, a huge funky common area and featuring, the one and only, Beaver Restaurant and Pub...the best backpacker hang out in North America.

This comment is directed more at Hostels.com than at SameSun. I originally booked thru hostels.com & purchased the cancellation protection fee.. later I cancelled my reservation and booked thru SameSun website b/c they have the room I wanted. Anyway I never received my deposit back from Hostels.com after I cancelled the original reservation, despite my purchasing cancellation protection fee. They have no phone number to reach, and my email was never answered!!! I would not do business with them

It is an average Hostel that has the problem that al lot of Hostels of this size have, its just too big to give you a personal experience. The Location is good but sometimes I felt more like in a shabby school dorm where there is party all night instead of a hostel. And there are clearly not enough bathrooms for the amount of rooms. To crash for one or two nights its absolutely okay, but I have seen much better...

It's a great place for a backpacker on a budget. The hostel is in the center of the entertainment district in Vancouver so there is always something to do and pretty much everything is in walking distance. On our first night, we got locked in because the lock in our door got jammed in the wrong way. They called maintenance and he removed the entire doorknob and nailed a wooden board over the hole and left it at that. I didn't have high expectations of the place having traveled to pretty bad host

The tour given by staff member Alasdair was very imformational and personalized. His manner of sharing the city he grew up in and it's history was exceptional. Thanks again to Alasdair, Best of Wishes, Randy in Oregon, U.S.A.

Sketchy location . Dirty , clogged toilets and overall not enjoyable because of rooming with staff who partied all night and kept waking us up.

This might be a place for some Teenagers to stay but definitely not for ANYBODY who expects a clean bed for the night. To everybody from Europe: the hostel was not like a youth hostel you will find e.g. in Germany!!!!! Loud music, rooms without any hangers or tables, hair on the pillows, just incredible. I immediately cancelled the reservation, still I was charged 1 night, even though my room was immediately rebooked and there were people trying to get accomodation. I will definitely NEVER bo

basically OK, great location and lots of programme and entertainment in the hostel and around...sometimes only too noisy in the lobby and bar area - hard to talk and listen...all in all very vibrant and central location in downtowns entertainment district - recommendable for some days
