We saw a big cock roach in our room and had to kill it. It did not make sleeping that night very easy to do.

The staff was excellent and accomodating to me as I have a walking disability. It was clean, safe, and I enjoyed my stay. I would stay there again.

The staff at the Flushing YMCA are very nice and helpful. They are also very efficient in performing their jobs. I stayed at two different hostels on this trip, the American Dream hostel and Flushing YMCA. I would say overall the facility at Flushing YMCA is better than the other one. The only drawback is its location - at the far end of the train 7, it takes about 40 minutes minimum to go to Manhattan, where typical travelers to NY want to go. Although there was a mistake in the reservation

At the beginning I was a bit skeptic about the place, but as time passed by everything was ok. I guess it just took some time to get used to. It kind of far away from NYC (~30-40 mins subway) but it was the only place available with a short notice (only a few days). IMO this place is the best value for a single person room in NYC. At $60/night there are not many cheaper and those that are cheaper are of FAR less quality than the Flushing Y. Staying here reminded me of the college dorms, cozy rooms with single-sex shared bathrooms. Each room has cable TV with towels and soap provided. There is wireless internet but it only works in the lobby and the third floor. There is a police station down the street and a cafe where you can get a free breakfast. Th

The room was clean and comfortable. But the cafe to which the hostel is tied up to provide free breakfast is not very hostel-guest friendly. I don't know if it was just that day, but we had to wait for like 30 mins for 2 orders of breakfast( bagel and cream cheese with fruits on the side, a sandwich consisting of 2 eggs and cheese). We saw the same happen to another couple of guests who were there before us.

the heater couldn't be turned off, which made the room really hot.
